The tsunami threat that followed the massive earthquake in Indonesia was virtually ruled out in India, says National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
No tsunami waves were noticed so far in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, said NDMA vice president Sasidhra Reddy.
The Indonesian president too said there was no immediate threat of a tsunami from an 8.6-magnitude earthquake that struck off Sumatra island.
India authorities too said there was no likelihood of tsunami being formed anywhere in the Indian Ocean.
A powerful earthquake of 8.9 magnitude hit the western coast of northern Sumatra on Wednesday. The quake was felt across the Indian Ocean. A tsunami warning was issued in Indonesia and across the India Ocean.
