No connection between old, new 'Chashme Buddoor' Says Siddharth

Multilingual actor Siddharth, who plays one of the leading men in David Dhawan's remake of 1981 classic "Chashme Buddoor", says the movie cannot be compared with the original.

"I'd never dare to compare David's and Sai Paranjpye's 'Chashme Buddoor'. I didn't think of Sai's film even once. There's no connection between the two. It has been a very liberating experience for me," said Siddharth, who made an impact with his role in "Rang De Basanti".

The actor is currently doing films in four languages - Tamil, Telugu, English and Hindi - and says "that's damn exciting for an actor who always complains about the quality of work offered to him".

In "Chashme Buddoor", he reprises the part actor Ravi Bawsani had enacted in the original, a light-hearted drama which also featured Farooque Sheikh, Deepti Naval and Rakesh Bedi in key roles.

"Would you believe it, Ravi Baswani and I went to the same college! Though he was much too senior for me to know him. But Ravi is very dear to me as an actor. I'm paying a homage to him," said Siddharth, who graduated from University of Delhi's Kirori Mal College.

Siddharth says he did "Chashme Buddoor" for a special reason.

"David and I have been meaning to work together for a while. While earlier projects didn't materialise, we became friends," he said.
The 33-year-old is also part of Deepa Mehta's "Midnight's Children".

"Luckily for me, within six months I got to work with Deepa Mehta (in 'Midnight's Children') and David. They are the two completely contrasting 'D' factors in my life.

"Both are so comfortable with the craft. I just had to go on both the sets and surrender myself to the director. While one was serious business, the other was fun all the way," he said.

Arrest warrant against Singer Adnan Sami - Mumbai

Singer Adnan Sami has had a permanent arrest warrant issued against him in Indore.

The singer failed to turn up at a concert in Indore in 2001, and a complaint was lodged by G Raghuvanshi against Sami, Indore resident Harshad Maule, and Mumbai-based celeb manager Shilpa Nayak, who was once the manager of Pak band Strings.

After hearings by the sessions court, an arrest warrant was issued against the accused in 2005. After the police couldn’t apparently execute it, a permanent warrant was issued under sections 406, 420 and 34 of the IPC, on Nov 19, 2011.
But the warrant reached the intended thana seven months later, on June 13. “The orders of the court were dated November 19, but they were issued only on June 2, and that was the main reason for delay in execution by police,” said SSP Sai Manohar. According to rules, Adnan will have to go to Indore to get bail. While he couldn’t be contacted, his secretary, Raju Soni, said that Adnan is in Londo.

Bikinis don’t suit the Indian body - Deepika

Deepika Padukone would be seen flaunting a bikini in her forthcoming film ‘Cocktail’, but the actress feels that Indian body type is not naturally suited for the costume.

I wish it was so easy and natural. I think the Indian body type is somehow not suited for a bikini. We as Indians have to work a little extra hard if we wish to carry it off,” the 26-year-old said here Thursday while unveiling the Melange Cocktail fashion collection.

Talking about her regime for the bikini shot, she said, “I changed my workout slightly. Basically, I just had to sacrifice going out for dinners every time Dino (producer Dinesh Vijan) took the cast out for dinners. I would just sit in my room alone and ate steamed fish and not have any dessert.
But once the shoot was over, Deepika let herself loose.

I remember being so disciplined that the day I finished the bikini shoot and I knew I could start eating normally. He (Vijan) took me out for dinner and I had this big chocolate dessert. Food and desserts, I think the restaurant ran out of food,” said Deepika humorously.

The film also stars Saif Ali Khan and model Diana Penty and hits theatres on July 13.

Post comedy, Hero Riteish Deshmukh to go for drama and crime thriller

Riteish’s comic timing in films like Masti, Kya Kool Hai Hum, Malamaal Weekly, Heyy Babyy, Dhamaal and Housefull series garnered him appreciation from all quarters. But now he wants to venture into a new territory.

“I did Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya, a romantic comedy with Genelia. She was aggressive and I had taken backseat…it was the chemistry that was required and it worked. After this …things changed because people’s perception has changed,” Riteish said.

“I have two different kinds of films that I would be doing – one drama and another urban crime thriller. I am looking forward to doing that…I am sure it will be great fun,” he said though he didn’t elaborate on them.

Earlier Riteish tried his luck on genres other than comedy in action film Cash, Ram Gopal Varma’s Naach and Rann, Sohail Khan’s home production Fight Club, Sujoy Ghosh’s Aladin, but they failed at the box office.
Apart from this, he had signed up Indra Kumar’s Masti 2. “I start shooting for Masti 2 from first week of August with Aftab, Vivek and me. It is my fourth film with Indra Kumar. It will be fun,” he added.

Masti 2 is the sequel of 2004 hit comedy Masti that starred Riteish, Vivek Oberoi, Aftab Shivdasani, Genelia, Amrita Rao, Tara Sharma, Lara Dutta and Ajay Devgn.

His next release is Kya Super Kool Hain Hum, a sequel to the 2005-hit Kya Kool Hain Hum. Releasing on July 27, the film, directed by Sachin Yardi, features Riteish, Tusshar Kapoor, Neha Sharma and Sarah Jane Dias.

“In the film Tusshar plays a struggling actor and I am a struggling DJ. For both of us bad luck is going on…they are working hard but nothing seems to work out. We inadvertently get into trouble doing certain things,” Riteish said.

Kya Super Kool Hain Hum is an adult comedy also featuring a pug (dog), whom Riteish describes as the third hero of the movie.

“He earns and we survive on his earnings. He is the bread earner of this family. He believes in sharing and scaring and he is very loyal…he is very generous,” he said.

Court raps Bol Bachchan Film producers for dud cheques, Bombay

One of the leading production houses in Bollywood is in serious legal and financial muddle. Ashtavinayak, the producers of money churners such as Jab We Met and the Golmaal franchise were dragged to court by financer Raju Shah after they failed to clear his dues of Rs 41 crore and several cheques were dishonoured.

On Friday the Bombay High Court pronounced the company a ‘defaulter,’ and directed Ashtavinayak to disclose all its agreements signed for Bol Bachchan. According to the court order (copy with this newspaper), Shah is also entitled to Ashtavinayak’s earnings from Bol Bachchan and its various rights, since their cheques to him have bounced. Besides, the company has been barred from selling its shares of five subsidiary companies, till Shah’s dues are cleared. If that was not enough, Shah is now moving court that Ashtavinayak’s other assets including properties and film copyrights should be attached.

Confirming the developments, advocate Rajeev Narula who argued on behalf of Shah “Bombay High Court has passed the order, it is dated June 26, 2012.” What if Ashtavinayak does not comply? Said Rajeev, “They have no choice.”
Speaking to this paper, soon after the Court ruled the verdict in his favour, Shah’s son, Yash said: “We fail to understand how can a company which earned so much with the Golmaal franchise and Jab We Met not clear its dues.” Shah considers the court ruling as a moral victory. “I am relieved, justice has been done,” he said.

When contacted, Rupen Amlani, a senior member from board of Ashtavinayak’s directors, refused to comment. However a spokesperson of the company said: “No amount is due and payable to Raju Shah. That is why the court has not stopped the movie (Bol Bachchan).”

Katrina Kaif goes deglam for Tiger

It was poet-thinker Harindanath Chattopadhyay who said, “It’s very difficult to be simple.” By that logic, Katrina’s most difficult role is in Ek Tha Tiger.

Director Kabir Khan, who had earlier insisted on a no-make-up look for Katrina in the film New York, has gone even further and insisted that she wear clothes from her own wardrobe for this film. Katrina’s not complaining either.
A friend of the actor says, “Katrina loves dressing in casuals. She hates getting dolled up and wearing makeup. She is
all smiles during the Ek Tha Tiger shoots.”

Interestingly, it’s the opposite for Katrina in her forthcoming Yashraj film opposite Shah Rukh Khan.

Says a source close to the actress, “She is dressed like an average city girl in Ek Tha Tiger. It’s the ‘real’ her, the way she is off screen. She even dug into her own wardrobe for this part. For Yashji’s film, however, Katrina has been given a chic appearance, so even a ‘casual’ song in the park is being worked upon in great detail.” Apparently Yash Chopra is adamant on transforming her into the archetypal Yash Chopra heroine.

In fact, Gulzar has penned a paean to Katrina’s beauty and the song has been composed by AR Rahman. Says our source, “It’s Gulzar saab’s most romantic song since Jab Bhi Yeh Dil Udaas Hota Hai. And it can’t be sung to Katrina in torn jeans and a floppy top.”

Apparently Yashji has been telling friends that the love song Shah Rukh sings to Katrina is the most romantic number he has shot since Kabhi Kabhi Mere Dil Mein.

A source close to both the projects says, “The difference between Katrina’s look in Ek Tha Tiger and Yashji’s film is the difference between the girl next door and the girl next door to the most romantic guy.”

Katrina’s role in Ek Tha Tiger is minimalist in every sense — her character doesn’t speak much, either.

Vivek Agnihotri to make political movies

New Delhi: After directing the erotic thriller ‘Hate Story’, Vivek Agnihotri is now making two films on socio-political issues. First to release will be his film ‘Buddha in a Traffic Jam’ on the Naxal issue, starring Anupam Kher. The other film is a political thriller ‘Freedom’ with R Madhavan in the lead.

Buddha in a Traffic Jam is in post production. It is a very different kind of a film when you compare it with ‘Hate Story’ or my previous film ‘Dhan Dhan Dhan Goal’,” Vivek, who started his career with ‘Chocolate’, told PTI.

This one too is a cerebral film but it isn’t anything like ‘Chocolate’. It deals with the Naxal issue and unfolds through nine chapters, just like a book,” he added. Anupam plays a professor in the film which also stars Arunoday Singh and Mahie Gill. The film was incidentally shot much before ‘Hate Story’ but would be released only now.

The film was almost ready when Vikram Bhatt spoke to me about ‘Hate Story’. Since he was the producer and wanted to start the film early, I decided to wait instead of rushing up both the films. I didn’t want a conflict by working on both films at the same time,” said Vivek.
Buddha in a Traffic Jam First Looks
He plans to roll out an innovative campaign to promote ‘Buddha In A Traffic Jam’.”I can be patient enough to bring the film at a right time after a right messaging. When I made ‘Chocolate’, no one had made suspense thrillers for a long time. Then when I conceptualised ‘Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal’, not just did I make it football centric, I also placed it in English football league, which was quite a complicated thing to do,” he said.

Vivek has already begun working on ‘Freedom’ for which he has already confirmed Madhavan as one of the male leads.

It is one film which is very close to my heart. It is a political thriller that gives a blow by blow account of modern day India during last three decades. I can’t wait to get behind the camera for this one. Madhavan is definitely on though a few more actors would soon be coming on board,” he said.
