The reports of her involvement in a Rs 150 crore land scam seems to have upset actress Genelia, who recently tied the knot with actor Ritesh Deshmukh.
Genelia's spokesperson was quick to react and has taken damage control measures. "Currently, Genelia is neither endorsing any real estate brand nor the board of director for any such company. 6-years back, she had done a photo shoot and one-off campaign for the real estate company, Anjaniputra Infrastructures Pvt. Ltd. Other than that there is no involvement of Genelia in the company," said the spokesperson.
We have seen several instances were Celebs landed in trouble, whenever they sign the endorsement deals for money without doing any background checks. However, senior Advocates say celebs can't held responsible for endorsing a brand. In fact, the case will not stand and their names willn't be included in the chargesheet after investigation.
A Nampally court has ordered the Saifabad police to register cheating cases against Genelia, real estate company MD Sujith Reddy and three other directors under the sections 120 B, 420, 406 and 506 of IPC. The company (Anjaniputra Infrastructures Pvt. Ltd) has collected nearly Rs 150 crore from the buyers, but haven't registered the plots in the name of them. Genelia acted as the brand ambassador of the company and was also said to be one the directors of the company.
