Bollywood’s latest offering comes from the newly launched JA Entertainment that marks the debut of quite a few stars in to a new arena. Apart from it being a debut film for actor Ayushmann Khurrana and Yami Gupta, the film embarks the journey of John Abraham as a producer too. And hence the prominence of the film multiple folds especially when this bunch of newcomers toy with the sensitive issue of sperm donation in a socially conservative nation like India.
Story:
The film is about Vicky, a Punjabi fun loving talented yet unemployed lad who is pampered by his grandmother but harassed by his typical Punjabi mother Dolly Ahluwalia who nags continuously for his unruly habits and unemployment. His ever so colorful life is further glorified when a fertility expert Dr. Chaddha (Annu Kapoor) finds him as a perfect sperm donor for his elite clients who fail to bear a child. He convinces unemployed Vicky to donate sperms and rake in moolah which will even solve his other problems caused by unemployment. But citing the conservative nature of society he intends to hide his ‘source of income’ from his family, friends, girlfriend (Yami Gautami) and others. Technicalities:
Director Shoojit Sircar deserves a great applaud for his impeccable direction of an unusual film like this. While taking up such a film for direction itself was quite a challenge we must say that the filmmaker proves every inch that he is nothing less than a genius. Handling such a critical issue with an added dose of humor and keeping the fun at its own pace in the film. He has assured the audience that there is not a single dull moment in the film coz as an audience you are completely glued to your seats throughout the screening.
Woman with a golden hand Juhi Chaturvedi is worth special mention here as she is the ne who has presented a beautiful script and has penned peppy dialogues for the film. Her writing contribution is simply outstanding and is a laudable attempt from her side. Music of the film is peppy and apt for its theme.
Performances:
Everything could have backfired if not for a perfect actor Ayushmann Khurrana who in his debut film will take the nation by his storm. He who hails from theatre and television background proves that he is certainly more than what just meets the eye. The film will showcase his talent in the uppermost form, here’s a short advice for filmmakers, bag him as he is just up for grabs. John and Shoojit’s find, Ayushmann is certainly a horse of the long run. Yaami Gautam too has put up a decent performance for a debutants’ stature. The light eyed beauty certainly has the mettle to give our leading Bollywood actresses a run for their money. Amongst the supporting star it is Annu Kapoor who outshines others. Dolly Ahluwalia and Kamlesh Gill have given benchmark performances for their parts.
Analysis:
Superstar John Abraham deserves a standing ovation for taking such a daring step to take up such a critical issue for his maiden production. Not everyone has the courage to take up a taboo issue as a central theme for their debut production film. His cameo in the film is as enjoyable as the whole film. Watch out with family, friends or colleagues as this is one such flick that can be enjoyed by all.
Plus Points: Ayushmann Khurrana, Dialogues, Mom-Dadi Banter
Minus Points: dragged second half
Final Word: Must watch for all.
