Hate Story 2012 Hindi Film Review
Starring Bengali actress Paoli Dam, Gulshan Devaiah and Nikhil Dwivedi ‘Hate Story’ is touted as India’s first official erotic film ever made. The film surely had lots of skin show but that could guarantee success for the film as it’s too tedious and lacks good plot.
Story:
The story of the film revolves around the life of journalist Kaavya whose role has been essayed by (Paoli Dam). Later, she falls prey to entrepreneur Siddharth Dhan Rajgir aka Sid whose role has been essayed by Gulshan. Circumstances leads to her transformation from a simple middle class journalist to a sex worker and where she herself gets exploited both professionally and sexually just to seek revenge. That’s how the journey begins of Kaavya’s revenge and the story unfolds of how she manages to take revenge with the help of her friend.

Performances:
Paoli is successful in making a powerful and strong debut through her acting skills in Bollywood. She has proved that apart from her skin show and boldness, there is some talent hidden in her. Gulshan is at his best and most importantly he has become successful of pulling off the character of an egoistic entrepreneur very suitably. Nikhil has also done justice to his role by playing a sole support to Kavya. His chemistry with Kavya is worth watching. Besides other supporting cast- Mohan Kapur has done a proficient job, Joy Sengupta has delivered remarkable performance. Saurabh Dubey has done an outstanding job. Iravati is on an average level. Bhairavi Goswami has made a good special appearance in the film.
Technicalities:
Film’s director Vivek Agnihotri‘s direction is the major trait of this film. The scenes are shot modishly. Camera angles are great and appreciating. The way major scenes are shot helps narration of the story. But the major trait that has been lacking is the story becomes much predictable. The first part fails to grab anxiety of viewers but the second part of the film is worth watching. Dialogues of the film are great and connect to the situations well. Apart form this Attar Singh Saini's cinematography is remarkable. Singer Harshit Saxena who has composed music for this song has done an average job. The music composer might have not worked on the songs but has given captivating background score.
Nonetheless, the makers have tried a lot to make it an Indian version of ‘Basic Instinct’, but Kavvya cannot do a Sharon Stone act. She’s too far away from her.
Plus Points: Gulshan, Paoli and Vivek Agnihotri
Minus Points: some flaws in the screenplay
Final Word: Watch it for Paoli and Gulshan’s thunderous chemistry.
