As the term of the current president Pratibha Patil is coming to an end, the debate has started on who would be the next first citizen of the country. Speculations were on a rise that former president Abdul Kalam will be choosen for the job for the second time.
Agriculture minister Sharad Pawar's statement that a 'non-political' person could be an 'ideal' choice has given strength to Kalam's nomination. "As both UPA and NDA aren't having the majority to ensure that candidate of their choice becomes the next President, it's better to choose a 'non-political' person," said Pawar.
Pratibha Patil’s term as the President of India will end in July. Several political parties has already agreed on the nomination of Kalam. Most likely, Abdul Kalam may emerge as a consensus candidate! Kalam's invaluable contribution to the nation and his impressive performance as the president of India might work in his favour.
