Mollywood actress Vishnupriya is feeling very thrilled these days. Two of her movies — Naanga in Tamil and Crime Story in Malayalam, were released on the same day last week.
The chirpy girl is getting accolades for her performance in Selvaa’s period flick Naanga. Priya, who watched her debut movie along with her mom at a theater in Kovai, was excited when people recognised her during the break and started asking for autographs.
“The film was playing to a full house and during the intermission, I came out thinking that no one would recognise me since I had acted as a girl with a 1980’s look.
But to my surprise, a bunch of boys came up and asked me if I was the one who had acted as Devi (my character name) in the movie,” she quips. Born and brought up in Bahrain, Vishnupriya is a trained classical dancer and films happened by chance.
Her debut Malayalam film Penpattanam in Vinu’s direction and a cast that included veterans like Revathy, Swetha Menon and KPAC Lalitha, was an average grosser but won critical reviews for the theme.
Recalling her association with award-winning actress Revathy, she says, “Initially, I was very nervous about working with such senior artistes. But, it was Revathy who comforted me and gave me a lot of professional tips.
She is a simple and down-to-earth person.” Currently, Vishnupriya is busy with Pudhumugangal Thevai with Sivaji Dev (thespian Sivaji Ganesan’s grandson) directed by Manish Babu.
“The film is all about cinema and I play a girl who is crazy about films. It’s a cracker of a role,” says Priya, who is an ardent fan of Suriya.
