Uchchithanai Mukarnthal
Docu-drama at its best
A movie on Lankan issue always garners attention. Director Pughazhendhi Thangaraj, who made Kattrukenna Veli, on a similar theme, laid his hands on the ethnic issue again. But this time documented the struggles on a young girl who suffered at the hands of Lankan army. Sathyaraj, Seeman and Sangeetha play pivotal roles. Check out the film. Tamil movie review - Uchchithanai Mukarnthal
Story
Professor Natesan (Sathyaraj) is a pro-Tamil sympathiser, who speaks for their cause and often lands up in jail for his outburst. His wife (Sangeetha) too shares his concerns. When the couple expects their child, a young girl Punithavathi (Neelika) from Batticoloa lands up in their house. She is allegedly gang raped by Lankan Army on 1 March 2009. She is just 13-years-old, but expects a baby. Enters a noble doctor (Lakshmi). Natesan, his wife and the doctor try their best to ensure the safety of the child. There is one Charles Anthony (Seeman), a noble inspector who helps them. One fine day they come to know that the young girl is down with AIDS. They approach Dr CND (Nasser) for help/ the girl is traumatized. What they do next forms the rest.
Performance
it’s Neelika's show all the way. She emotes. Brings her best. Be it with Lankan tigers or the puzzled life in Chennai, she gives right emotions. Sathyaraj does his role with caution. So are Sangeetha and Seeman. Lakshmi walks away with dignity.
Technicalities
B Kannan, the veteran has cranked the camera and he has captured the atrocities of Lankan army well. So is the innocence of a young girl well. D Imman's music is awesome. Fits the theme well.Thamizha Irupai Nee Nerupai is worth a mention. Director Pughazhendi Thangaraj has documented the struggles of Tamils in Lanka well.
Verdict
On the whole it may sound like a documentary. But finding flaws in such a sensitive theme is needless. With sharp dialogues and catchy scenes, the movie sounds good.
