Sonu Sood has come a long way in Bollywood. After doing some character and negative roles, he has grown as a full fledged main lead in this weeks release Maximum. Sonu plays an encounter specialist in this cop based political drama. The movie also stars veteran Naseeruddin Shah and Neha Dhupia in other lead roles. This movie which is rumored to be based on the real life of encounter specialists in Mumbai has finally released this Friday, let’s see how it is.

Technical Aspects :
This movie is technically good. Cinematography is very decent and shows the police and underworld set up very nicely. Dialogues of the movie are very ordinary and could have surely been better. Characterization by the director is pretty decent. Movie has only two songs which are just average. South’s super hit track ‘Aa Ante Amalapuram’ has been totally wasted in the film and has been shot very badly. Screenplay is considered to be the heart & soul for any film. Kabeer Kaushik falls short of a gripping screenplay which is expected of every cop film. The seriousness or the intensity which is required in the movie is just not captivated on screen.
Plus Points :
The story of the movie is decent, which is surrounded around the fiery politics in the police department. Sonu Sood in the role of an encounter specialist looks good. He suits the role pretty well with his effective body language. Naseeruddin Shah as always delivers a mature performance in the role of a anti-cop. Comedian Vinay Pathak is the life of the movie as he does an awesome job as a cruel politician. He has surprised everyone with his diversity in his acting. He surely should be trying out roles like these very often. Though Neha Dhupia has a lesser role looks decent as a house wife. Director manages to show the encounter setup and killing scenes very naturally. Mumbai underworld and gangster locations are shown in a captivating manner.
Minus Points :
Though the director chooses a very interesting subject he seriously fails to execute it on screen. Since the story is based on the inner politics of the police department, one is bound to expect superb confrontational scenes between the lead characters, which was seriously missing in this movie. Naseeruddin Shah’s role doesn’t get elevated at all as the director fails to tap his acting capabilities in a negative role. Though Naseeruddin Shah is the main person who plans the hero’s downfall his role is not sketched properly. Instead of showing some gritty planning and plotting scenes the director chooses to execute them directly on screen which sometimes confuses the audiences. Sonu Sood’s expressions in the second half when he is going through a tough time could have been a lot better. What could have been a decent film is totally let down by the director with his very normal story telling.
Final Word :
On the whole, Maximum is one movie which could have been really better, falls short because of its poor execution. Lack of gripping screenplay and fiery dialogues are big time let downs in this movie. Apart from Sonu Sood and Naseeruddin Shah, Maximum gives you minimum pleasure. So just wait for the DVD to release or for its TV premiere.
