Mazhaikalam 2012 Tamil Movie Review(First On Net)
Off-season
Mazhaikalam has garnered enough attention from the media and the public even before its release, thanks to the reports that its heroine Saranya (of Peranami fame) has gone nude for the climax scene in the film.Bait indeed, which one just can't bite. From why the director (debutant S Deepan) chose Mazhaikalam as the movie's title to why he opted for such a climax, a lot of questions remain unanswered as we walk out of the cinema hall.Read on for Mazhaikalam Tamil Movie Review
Story
The storyline of the film is based on the relationship between two young lovers and how a hidden truth causes lot of trauma to their affair and whether things get sorted. In his attempt to present a moving love story on screen, Deepan has missed out to get the emotions right. As a result, the film ends up as a confusing collage of songs, romance, comedy, sentiments and stunts, with hardly any connectivity between scenes.
Once the movie wanders onto such a plane, there is only one direction for it to go, downhill. Vijay (Sreeram), who hails from a rich family, falls for Sophie (Saranya), a student of Fine Arts College. When he is of the opinion of that she too is in love with him, he gets the shock of his life. Sophie turns down Vijay's proposal and she refuses to reveal the reason. Vijay goes the whole hog to find it out.

Performance
Newcomer Sreeram is good in dance and fight sequences. Saranya emotes well. Ganja Karuppu's comedy attempt is one of the tragedies of the film. Others in the cast include KK and Jayashree.
Analysis
Prem Anand's songs are average, while Malayalam composer Johnson's (who is no more) background score make the movie little interesting.
The way the films ends looks like an attempt on the writer's part to give a poignant, almost poetic touch, to the final few frames. But the end result is straight opposite.
