After directing the critically acclaimed Sringaram that bagged three National Awards, Sharada Ramanathan is ready with her next titled Pudhiya Thiruppangal.
If her debut movie dealt with the Devadhasi system, Pudhiya… is about yet another sensitive issue — child trafficking.
The movie has Nandha, Andrea, and Surveen from Bollywood, playing the lead roles. “It’s an emotional thriller which will be a big leap for Nandha.
His character has a surprise element,” says Sharada. Denying the rumour that Andrea is playing a hooker in the movie, she said, “Andrea is a journalist in the flick.
She is a very intelligent artiste — she gave valid suggestions and improvised on the sets. If you ask me, I would say that with her multi-talents and versatility, she is fit to be in Hollywood as well.” Sharada says that she researched a lot before she started shooting.
“I went to jail and met undertrials, watched their body language, and even witnessed a police operation, to get that authentic feel to the narration”.
It was shocking to note that Tamil Nadu ranks 3rd in child-trafficking and child abuse, she exclaimed.
While ace cinematographer Madhu Ambat is behind the camera, Vidyasagar is back composing music for a Tamil film after a long gap.
