The state Congress leaders were not pleased with the High Command's decision to send actor- turned-politician Chiranjeevi to the Rajya Sabha.
"Confining Chiranjeevi to the state politics would be a better option, instead of sending him to the Upper House. The services of Chiranjeevi will be more useful to the party in the state than in Delhi. He is capable of saving the party from both TDP and YSR Congress. I really don't understand what's the intention of High Command to nominate him to the Rajya Sabha," said a Congress MLA.
Even chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy was averse to the nomination of Chiranjeevi to Rajya Sabha. He even came up with a proposal of making Chiru Deputy Chief Minister and using his services in the state, showing the reasons that winning the Tirupati by-election is not a cake walk for Congress if Megastar was sent to Delhi. However, the High Command turned down the proposal.
The erstwhile PRP MLAs too agreed with the opinion of Chief Minister and other Congress leaders. "A big opportunity has been wasted by sending our leader to Delhi. It will become an advantage for other parties and a disadvantage for Congress," said a source close to Chiru.
