The banned dubbing culture since five decades in Kannada cinema after a protest carried out by Dr Rajakumar in the early sixties to give identity and self reliance to Kannada cinema is once again making news.
In the past several attempts have been smudged and strictly dubbing was not permitted of other languages to Kannada.
Now 50 plus producers – all losers in the market producing Kannada cinema are making joint call for dubbed films to Kannada it is reliably learnt. According to the constitution of India is concerned dubbing is allowed but it is the cultural policy of Karnataka state since five decades. Several fights have been taken up in the past to stall the dubbing.
Producers in the losers list like Anaji Nagaraj, A Ganesh, Umesh Banakar, Pravin, BR Keshav, Gangadhar, RS Gowda and others are in the list to against to the cultural policy.
The reasons pro dubbing producers giving are as follows:
· Rs.3 crore invested Kannada cinema is removed in just one day from the theatre. Instead of that if we buy the dubbing rights for a few lakhs we could survive and give best quality to Kannada audience.
· The main point the pro dubbing producers are raising is the recent Competition Commission of India verdict. The verdict clearly says no one can stop any language film. They can come in any number of theatres they want.
· Instead of non Kannada films spread nook and corner such films are shown in Kannada dubbed version it is a small respite to producers here in Kannada.
· When the big hero’s dates and investment is taken in to account it is not possible to produce films in Kannada.
· There is no guarantee also for the investment made on Kannada stars except a few.
