The police Sub Inspector (SI) Sekhar Babu and Assistant Sub Inspector (Assit. SI) Chennaiah were suspended by the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Nellore district BV Ramana Kumar for bending rules for Finance Minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy.
The two cops who were in-charges of the check-post put up to prevent the illegal activities in the by-poll bound Kovur constituency had allowed the convoy of the Finance Minister to pass them without checking it. The SP has taken this matter very seriously and punished them with the suspension order.
It has become quite common for the cops to leave the convoy of top brass political leaders without checking, though it comes under violation of rules. But the SP's strict action has stunned the entire police force. In fact, its a wake up call to the cops and the political leaders, who enjoyed the privilege of not undergoing the checking during elections.
In the past, there were incidents of top brass political leaders carrying cash in their convoy to distribute in the constituencies to attract the voters. In Kovur alone, around Rs 85 lakhs in cash and 200 liquor bottles were seized by the police at the check-posts till date.
