A newly proposed imposition has been declared by the Central Government of India which could severely affect the filmmaking business and this has irked the bigwigs of Indian film Industries. The Central Government has proposed a service tax of nearly 10.3 per cent. This latest imposition would hike the taxation burden and additional taxes could take a toll on the budgets of the films. Hence the Film Federation of India (FFI) has anticipated a nationwide strike on 23rd February, 2012.
They intend to stall the work for one day in order to protest against the hiked taxes. Though the cancellation of shoot may adversely affect the film industry and might incur heavy financial loses for them, many major players of the market have decided to support the drive against government’s decision. The film industries of India are yet to take a final call on this proposed strike.
