Lanka 2011 Hindi Movie Review:Cinejwala:

Story: ‘Lanka’ symbolizes mythological character Raavan’s reign where an ant to cannot move without his consent. And such is JaswantSisodiya’s (ManojBajpai) control at a small town in UP named Bijnour.

He is in love with the most beautiful girl Anju (Tia Bajpai) residing in the city and makes her his mistress without her consent. No one in the town including her father can do anything and are hapless in front of JaswantSisodiya aka Bhaisahab. Enters, Bhaisahab’s aide,(ArjanBajwa) his most faithful servant’s son whom he treat more than his younger brother.

Analysis: The story was definitely apotent concept and the promos suggested that the film is going to be a surprise package, but much to our disguise, the film disappoints. The plot moves too slowly towards the climax. A brother’s dilemma to go against his own brother for a girl is not explained entirely.

The climax too is not very impactful. As far as characterization is concerned, the film was decent but it failed at execution. There was a punch expected from the movie citing talented actors like ManojBajpai, Tia Bajpai and ArjanBajwa but it lacked that and disappointed.

Performances: MonajBajpai was his natural self. He knows his craft well and performs his part par expectations. Tia Bajpai emotes exceedingly well. She is talented and should be offered good films. ArjanBajwa was a slight disappointment as he seemed confused in parts.

He has the physique, attitude and the body language to make a star, but needs that extra attention to his acting. Yashpal Sharma is his usual self. YatinKaryekar as Tia’s helpless father is very good in his role.

Technicalities: What seemed like good direction suddenly changes path after starting on a good note. There is a glimpse of Imtiaz and Tigmanshu Dhulia’s work but cannot stand at par them. The cinematography goes with the plot, background music is okay. Songs do not impress much. Editing had to be more crisp.

Plus points: ManojBajpai, Tia Bajpai
Minus Points: Over the top, very slow paced

Final Word: Can be watched at home, need not go to theatres.
