Actress Pooja Gandhi to do a Malayalam Movie

Actress Pooja Gandhi debuts in a Malayalam film not for the passion to work in another industry but for the lady director, Revathy S Varma. “I took up this project only for this wonderful lady, who is very talented in her creativity and is technically brilliant,” she says.

She plays Lisa Mollu (girl) in her first Malayalam film titled, 'Maad Dad' which she is currently shooting for. Having done one or two films in Tamil, Pooja had never tried to work in other regional languages down south. “Language was never a barrier for me. I will remain a Kannadiga throughout my career. Once in a while getting into another language gives a change to any actor,” says Pooja. The film which is a comedy entertainment will see Pooja as a tomboyish rich girl. “I make an entry in a bullet for this film,” reveals the actress, adding, “This is a hatke role for me, which I got out of chance.”
Apparently, the film will also be done in Hindi with Amitabh Bachchan playing the lead. Will this also see Pooja entering B-Town? “I don’t know what is written for me. Every step in my life is taken as it comes,” she chuckles.

She recently started shooting for another Kannada film, Hoovi based on a political plot. The actress clarifies that this film has nothing to do with her entering politics. “Hoovi is about an uneducated village girl who makes her presence in various political functions held at her place. How a particular situation changes her life is taken amazingly in this story,” she explains. The actress who has been quite appreciated for playing the bold character of Lakshmi in Dandupalya, has equally been criticised by certain sections for her bare back. “Criticism comes with any character you play apart from the normal self. I am here to act in films and entertain. I am a complete actress. I want to be in a real frame for any performance. A role like Lakshmi can be played by an actress who has caliber. Such characters are only meant to be portrayed by actresses like Smitha Patil or Shabana Azmi. For me, it was a challenge, which should be seen in a beautiful way. It is a role which brought the other side of me,” she said. Pooja adds, “Only such hard hitting character will be remembered by people once they watch the film. After that my bare back will never been an issue. Why do I need a film like Dandupalya to show my glamorous back, when I get to read several scripts where I can just be a glam doll. It was just situational,” she asserts.

Pooja is also giving equal amount of time to politics. “Twenty four hours is always less for any profession. My passion to do social work brings me to politics and I am currently enjoying serving the society,” she signs off.
