After the high turnout (74%) at the Kovur by-poll, the gamblers have invested huge amounts of money in the betting on the winning chances of the candidates. Reports say, nearly Rs 100 crore have gone into betting on the outcome of Kovur by-poll.
The YSR Congress leaders were claiming that their party candidate Nallapureddy Prasanna Kumar Reddy would win with a big margin. On the other hand, the TDP leaders have asserted that the outcome will be a shocker to Prasanna Kumar Reddy who betrayed the parent party. Though the delay in announcing it's candidate has ruined the winning chances of Congress, an aggressive campaigning in the last two days has given some hope to it.
All the three major parties have poured in a lot of money to woo the voters. The voters were offered not less than Rs 1,000 each and if a family has four votes, they might get atleast Rs 12,000 from all the three major parties. Around Rs. 1 crore cash, 2,000 watches, 2000 silver lamps, silver anklets and ear rings were seized by the police from a YSR Congress leaders. Few days back, about Rs. 1 crore has been seized from the house of a former TDP corporator. The TDP even offered Rs. 50 lakh to the fishermen villages for the development work. The ruling Congress is no exception in this case.
