Yet another memorable and touching awards evening by likeminded friends in the cinema industry held the 5th year SP Varadaraju (younger brother of Dr Rajakumar the pillar in the family of Raj Empire) award evening on Tuesday evening at Kannada Sahitya Parishat.
This year the award money has been increased from Rs.5000 to Rs.10000. Smt Ranganayakamma from stage and Sri Ashwathnarayana from cinema – both put in over five decades of service received the awards from Smt SP Nagamma sister of siblings Dr Raj and SP Varadaraj.
Very busy personality Ambarish graced the awards evening and added more pep to the evening. Ambarish honored Smt Nagamma on this occasion.
Veteran actor of over 300 films Ashwathnarayana speaking on this occasion remembered the difficult days of Dr Rajakumar and SP Varadaraju. Rs.10 was daily wage for Rajanna and Rs.8 was for Varadappa. It was hard work and devotion to work that kept going. According to Ashwathnarayana ‘Naari Punya and Purusha Bhagya’ gave such stardom to Dr Rajakumar. It is Smt Parvathamma who is ‘Naari Punya’ and Rajanna is Purusha Bhagya explained Ashwathnarayana.
With no job nowadays for him Ashwathnarayana urged Ambarish to recommend him for his living. There is no need to help after death he stated.
Similar tone was Smt Ranganayakamma also spoke. She addressed the government for delay in sanctioning her application. What I would feel is that the government might do after I depart deeply regretted.
Smt SP Nagamma was the special guest on this occasion. The sister of Dr Raj and Vardappa was emotional looking at the awards evening. She was felicitated on this occasion by Ambarish who came one hour 15 minutes late to the event.
SA Chinne Gowda brother of Smt Parvathamma Rajakumar, children of SP Varadaraju, Dr Rajakumar daughters Smt Lakshmi and Poornima, son in law Ramkumar, Sadashiva Brahmavar were present.
Green House Restaurant Vasu arranged for evening snacks. Prof Baraguru Ramachandrappa welcomed the gathering and also proposed a vote of thanks. Anand rendered a few songs on this occasion besides the ‘Nada Geethe’ to start the function.
