The prestitigious ‘Basava Bhushan’ award has gone to the prestigious playback singer S Janaki – the voice that the South Indian cinema industry cannot forget.
Sri Motagi Math of Athani in Belgaum district has announced the award for five languages singer S Janaki. The silver and bronze mixed trophy, Rs.25000 cash and citation will be bestowed on S Janaki on January 9, 2012 at the premises of Sri Matha. Sri Prabhu Channabasava Swamiji has made this announcement on Saturday.
This is for the first time a woman has been selected for this award since 2005 says the Swamiji. S
Janaki has impeccable relation with the Kannada film music since decades stated the Swamiji.
The other winners of this award are – Dr NG Mahadevappa, Dr MM Kalburgi, Dr Prabhakara Kore, Dr Vishveswara Bhatta, Shankara Bidari, Dr Narasimhalu Vadavati and music director and lyricist Hamsalekha.
The award in the name of 12th century reformer from Karnataka Sri Basaveshwara is regarded high like ‘Basava Sri’ award.
