Aadukalam directed by Vetrimaran which has been recognized internationally and nationally was adjudged the best movie and the director received Rs two lakh and the producer recieved Rs one lakh at the valedictory function of the Ninth Chennai International Film Festival on Thursday.
Director Sargunam's Vaagai Sooda Vaa was adjudged the second best movie of the year. Debutant novelist Su Venkatesan was honored for Kaaval Kotam and special jury honour for writer Bhaskar Sakthi for Azhagarswamiy in Kuthirai.
The jury which included actor Prathap Pothan and Rohini and film critic Madhan said one of the main things we considered was realistic characterization and strength of the plot for the awards.
Suhasini Maniratnam who was part of the organising committee termed the festival as a success and wished it would be even bigger next year.
