‘Tell Me O Kkhuda’ is a comeback of Hema Malini to direction and her daughter Esha Deol to acting. More than Hema, Esha needed to prove herself with this film that would decide her future in the movie business. But sad to say that the film does nothing good, nor for Hema and neither for her daughter. Even the ensemble cast could not do much to save it.
Story:
Predictably enough Tania Kapoor (Esha Deol) is in search of her ‘real parents’. On August 24, 1986, Tania was born in Bombay Municipality Hospital with many more kids. The hospital caught fire and Tania was saved by an Army officer Ravi Kapoor (Farooque Sheikh) who adopted her. 24 years later, she discovers this fact and sets on a journey to find her identity.
Analysis:
If the film would have been an out and out comedy, it might have worked, but this high voltage drama fails to make an impact and also created a few laughs instead of emotions. Esha jumping from a height and directly landing on the camel, Dad is Goa’s don and his rival kidnaps Tania for a dramatic 90’s climax were just not required. There were scenes that use to work in Hema’s era but now the film scene has changed and the lady had to keep this in mind which she fails at doing.
Performances:
Esha does her part well. But Hema was not able to portray her well. She looked good in a couple of sequences but where she is without make-up, she looks less presentable. Otherwise, the lady has the potential. Arjan Bajwa is decent and Chandan Roy Sanyal steals the show in whatever little he has to do. Veterans Vinod Khanna, Rishi Kapoor, Farooque and Deepti are good. Dharmendra did not suit his role.
Technicalities:
Direction made the film dates. Though, the first half was still tolerable, the second half killed it. The film seemed dragged at several places. Few songs were decent. Background score was mediography. Cinematography faltered at places. Overall, it was not worth wasting time on.
Plus Points:
- Salman Khan’s final song
- Chandan Roy Sanyal
- Rishi Kapoor
- Vinod Khanna
Minus Points:
- Direction
- Story
Final Word: Watch it if you don’t have anything better to do.
