Wait for monsoon over, rains lash Delhi and NCR, but chaos on roads - New Delhi

New Delhi: It is raining, raining and raining all over Delhi and the NCR.

The onslaught of scorching hit has taken a backseat with the much-awaited pre-monsoon showers lashed the capital on Friday with drizzling continued till Saturday morning bringing smiles to the Delhiites reeling under scorching heat for over a month.

Medium to heavy rains lashed most parts of the city at around 6 PM on Friday forcing the city into darkness.

Sudden rains led to waterlogging and traffic snarls in various places like Laxmi Nagar, Parliament Street, ITO, R K Puram, Zakhira, Kishan Ganj, Nizammudin, Tagore Garden, Akshardham, Ashram, Sarai Kaalekhan, Kashmere Gate, Shanti Van, Nigam Bodh Ghat, PHQ, Baraf Khana Chowk, Roop Nagar and Azad Market. People have to face a tough time to go to their homes after completing their office work.

The rains exposed the lackluster attitude of the authorities and tall claims that they are prepared for it.  Severe water-logging at the heavy traffic sites like Akshardham and ISBT put the commuters into great trouble struggling to reach home safely.

Rainwater clogged the escalators at several metro stations with the platforms too drenched in water. While water logging under the railway bridge at ITO led to a massive traffic snarl, the commuters were forced to go for other longer routes to escape the rain.
Friends, families and couples flocked to the best picnic destination of Delhi ‘India Gate’ to enjoy the first showers. Two men and a woman were injured when a bike skidded on the one-way road around India-Gate with another biker coming from behind hitting the fallen bike.

With the starting of the month of Saawan ‘the rainy month’ from June 4, the rains gave a reason to rejoice for many celebrating the month of lord Shiva. The city is also picking up preparations for the Kanwariyas set to mark their journey to fetch the ‘holy Gangajal’ for Lord Shiva.
