The director of Vikram’s troubled Karikalan is reportedly being replaced mid-way Karikalan’s woes seem to continue. The latest buzz is that the film’s director, Kannan, has been allegedly asked to leave and the makers are asking A R Gandhikrishna, who’s originally said to have written the script, to helm the movie.
A source reveals, “Though the Vikram-starrer was announced more than a year ago, just 25 per cent of the film is done. The makers aren’t very happy with the way the scenes have turned out and are looking to re-shoot the entire thing with a new filmmaker. When they were discussing names, one of the first choices was Gandhikrishna, as he’s written the script.
When we contacted Gandhikrishna, he said, “It’s true that the producers have approached me recently to shoot this film and we’re working out the modalities currently. If everything falls in place and Vikram sir’s dates can be worked out, I will be interested in taking it up.
However, the current director, Kannan had a different story to tell. He said, “All is well with the project. We have completed 25 per cent of it and I’ll be shooting the rest of it once Vikram gets done with his current assignments.” Karikalan revolves around the man who built one of the first dams in the country. It is said that the period flick is heavy on computer graphics as it is difficult to actually re-create the era that Karikalan lived in.
Producer clarifies
When contacted, S S Vasan, one of the film’s producers, clarified that director Kannan will definitely be in the film. However, the change that they’re planning is replacing cinematographer Karthik with Rathnavelu aka Randy. He added that there will be a few changes in the technical side as well.
