Seems like, the new liquor policy introduced by the state government to control the Syndicate mafia mayn't yield the desired results.
As per the sources, all the syndicates have come to an understanding that all will be getting equal percentage in the new policy. None of these syndicates have direct contact with new Liquor policy, fearing ACB threat. Several tribals, who are just benamis of syndicates, have been part of the liquor draw. Surprisingly, Women competed to file the applications seeking permission for liquor shops this time. Syndicates were ready to pay Rs 10 - 25 lakhs in bargain for each shop to the lucky person who won the lucky-draw.
For 6,564 Liguor shops in the state, around 30,000 applications were received, which is a big decline compared to last year (over 50,000). Govt. increased the application fee (EMD) from 10,000 last year to 25,000 this year. The shop owners will be decided using the lucky-draw system. Estimated revenue for Govt. with the draw is said to be Rs.70 crore. The lottery process will begin from 3 pm on Tuesday under the supervision of district collector.
