Peepli [Live] director to adapt Sea of Poppies for movie

Journalist-turned-director Anusha Rizvi is back with her second film. Based on Amitav Ghosh’s novel ‘Sea of Poppies’, the film will be an adventure thriller set against the backdrop of the opium trade and extreme poverty.

Interestingly, the book was gifted to her while she was filming her debut film ‘Peepli [Live]’ and to Anusha, the story seemed like the prequel to her debut film.

It would be interesting to see the coming together of great minds. Amitav’s ‘Sea of Poppies’ was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize in 2008 and Anusha’s ‘Peepli [Live]’ was India’s official entry for the coveted 83rd Academy Awards in the Best Foreign category.

Reportedly, Anusha is currently trying to raise funds for the upcoming film, the first draft of which she has already narrated to Amitav.
