Maganti Ravali, daughter of former minister and TDP vice-president Maganti Babu, lodged a police here on Monday alleging that she was kidnapped and forcibly married by her engineering college mate Ghattamaneni Harish (21) with the help of some others.
Following her complaint, police registered a case against six persons - Harish, his father Radhakrishna, friends Garapati Nanda, Ashok, Rayala Venkat and one Pakalapati Brahmaiah who is said to have provided shelter to Harish.
Ravali(18), an engineering second year student at Sir CRR College, alleged in her complaint with the Two Town police that Harish had been pestering her in the name of love for the past two years. In order to avoid trouble from him, her parents had sent her to their relatives' home at Bangalore.
However, Harish followed her to Bangalore and on February 10 kidnapped her by threatening her with acid attack.
He sedated her and later married her at a temple in Bangalore, Ravali said. He got photos of the marriage taken and made her sign some papers.
Ravali said she was later taken to the house of Pakalapati Brahmaiah, a relative of Harish, at Koppulavarigudem village in Pedavegi mandal in West Godavari district and confined there. On Saturday night, she escaped from there and reached her home, Ravali alleged.
DSP Krishna Prasanna told Express that a case has been registered under kidnap and related sections.
Eluru town CI Murali Krishna is investigating the case.
