Ajay Devgn is going the Salman Khan way. Aware of the success formula Southern remakes have in Bollywood after the hit of his action vehicle Singham, Ajay is now looking at playing the cop again in the remake of a Malayalam film. What’s more, he is getting into the production too.
Perhaps it was Aamir Khan, who showed with Ghajini what market South remakes have in Bollywood, but it was Salman who collared the idea and took it forward with first Wanted and then Ready and Bodyguard. Though Bollywood is suffering from a dismal lack of original ideas and hence the dependence on the South, the Hindi cinema watching front benchers don’t mind, because for them it is all paisa vasool stuff.
Salman – King of the South Remakes, however, disagrees. “There are good writers in Bollywood, it’s a fluke that I am doing films based on the South. In Wanted, yes, the plot is the same, but not the flavor as there is huge difference in the style,” the actor stressed, adding, “There are good movies made in the Hindi film industry too, and I am doing a Yash Raj film currently. What’s heartening is that the South likes our cinema equally and is keen to do remakes.”
According to filmmaker Anees Bazmee, “Remakes are happening for many years but have suddenly gained momentum because of the success ratio. However, there is no guarantee for a successful flick.” The Ready director added, “I got few offers from South filmmakers to remake their films in Hindi after Ready. However, I didn’t accept them as I felt those films wouldn’t suit the Hindi audience. We need to understand both the industries and people have different sensibilities, it’s difficult for someone to understand which film has the potential to be remade in Hindi.”
