The Kollywood would not work on 23 February as Film shows at cinema halls and shootings of upcoming movies will be cancelled on the day, thanks to a nationwide strike by cinema bodies all over India opposing the service tax proposed by the Union government.
Tamil Film Producers Council, Distributors Association, Directors Association and South Indian Film Artists Association have offered their support to the strike call given by pan Indian bodies.
After a joint meeting of various bodies met over the service tax imposed by the Union government, it was decided that they would strike on 23 February to condemn this and hence there will be no film screening, Nadigar Sangam president Sarath Kumar said.
The release said the film industry was already under severe pressure due to issues like piracy and screening of films on satellite channels without proper permission. In addition to this, the imposition of more such taxes will make the situation worse, it said further.
