From 13th of January 2012 for Kannada films like ‘Sidlingu and Ko Ko Koli Kothi’ have seen many contestants from non Kannada films like ‘nanban, Vettai, Businessman and Bodyguard’ in the battle of box office. In the later weeks the film like ‘Arakshaka’ and Hindi film ‘Agneepath’ were biggest competitors to Kannada films.
The fact is that after three days of ‘Arakshaka’ there is slight drop in the collection and even ‘Sidlingu’ is facing paucity of audience. It is only the Bharani Minerals ‘Ko Ko Koli Kothi’ that is going strong with 200 shows a day running in fifty plus theatres all over Karnataka. After 17 days ‘Ko Ko Koli Kothi’ the debut production of Bhasker and Adhinarayan in the direction of R Chandru - starring Srinagara Kitty, Priyamani, Srihari and others in the cast is a tremendous development and progressive and encouraging to the first time producers in Kannada.
The big rush of non Kannada films like ‘nanban, Vettai, Businessman and Bodyguard’ (two Tamil and two Telugu) was there only for first week and later it settled down in a few theatres not hurting the collections of Kannada films. As a result of majority of theatres occupation the bosses in the Kannada film industry held meetings to protect the Kannada films with sufficient theatres.
While the 20th (Tsunami) and 27th Friday release ‘Agneepath’ of Hrithik Roshan, Sanjay Dutt and Priyanka Chopra doing good in the box office and of course in the Kannada front ‘Arakshaka’ of two super stars - Upendra and P Vasu combination gathered good attention for the first three days.
The collection of ‘Ko Ko Koli Kothi’ compared to the ‘Sidlingu’ is better says the industry sources and this is despite of Kannada Arakshaka and Hindi ‘Agneepath’ hitting the silver screen.
Producer of ‘Sidlingu’ TP Siddaraju admitted to a few journalists that the collection reaches only the breakeven for him. ‘Sidlingu’ is running in 53 theatres in which six theatres are showing two shows and four theatres only one show a day.
In the case of ‘Ko Ko Koli Kothi’ - Released in 78 theatres this film has settled strongly in 50 theatres in which in three theatres there is one show of ‘Ko Ko Koli Kothi’ in Karnataka.
As for as the collection is concerned ‘Ko Ko Koli Kothi’ is not affected with Upendra and P Vasu film ‘Arakshaka’. The screenplay based cinema ‘Arakshaka’ was compared to another screenplay based ‘Ko Ko Koli Kothi’. The audience especially approved the tightness in screenplay with no confusion in ‘Ko Ko Koli Kothi’. For Upendra ‘Arakshaka’ it is stated as a bowl of ‘Noodles’ - the brain is put to trouble is the media reports.
Come February 3rd, 2012 - ‘Chingari’ of challenging star Darshan is releasing. As on today 125 theatres list has been announced by distributor Sammarth Ventures.
Again Telugu films ‘Ayyare’, ‘Goondaism’ and ‘Raudhram’, Tamil film ‘Kollekaran’ are releasing against ‘Chingari’ Kannada cinema.
Among other Kannada films running at present ‘Vishnuvardhana’ and ‘Shyloo’ crossed 50 days and it is rejoicing moment for producers of ‘Vishnuvrdhana’ Dwarakish but not for ‘Shyloo’ K Manju. Malashri ‘Shakthi’ by debutant Anil Kumar as director has completed 25 days in 30 plus theatres.
