Makers of 'Lanka' haven't tried to hide the fact that their film is a modern day adaptation of 'Ramayana'. However this time around there is a twist in the tale since the film is centred on the characters based on Raavan, Seeta and Vibhishan with no place for Ram. Don't the actors feel that it is a huge risk to alter the mythological world since this could well attract the attention of moral brigade?
"Frankly, this never ever occurred to our minds," says Tia who plays a character based on Seeta, "There may be a mythical reference for our story but the fact remains that 'Lanka' is actually inspired by a real life incident. There were three real life characters who existed a few years ago and Manoj, Arjan and myself are playing them. We are just reflecting the reality of life so why should there be any protests? If a few people out there start believing that we are hurting their moral values then it is disappointing because that's not the intent at all."
"As for us depicting reality then well if someone has any problems then why don't they just go ahead and mend the wrong doings that have happened in the interiors of the country," she questions, "A man keeping a woman in his confines without her will doesn't paint a pretty picture, isn't it? If people feel that we should not tell such stories then they better ensure that such things don't happen in real life."
With Manoj Bajpayee playing Raavan and Arjan enacting the part of Vibhishan, 'Lanka' releases all over this Friday.
