It's Deepavali and its time to welcome stars. Its battle royal at the box office as three big films is competing for honours this festive occasion. Surya starrer 7am Arivu, Vijay in Velauydham and Shahrukh Khan's Ra.One are releasing this Wednesday.
7am Arivu
The Ghajini team is back. Surya, Murugadoss, cinematographer Ravi K Chandran and music composer Harris Jeyaraj come together again a sci-fi medical thriller that brings together for 7am Arivu.
Surya plays the role of a circus artiste and a Buddhist monk named Bodhidharma, hailing from Tamilnadu, who later travels to China. Shruti Haasan, elder daughter of Kamal Haasan, is making her debut in Tamil cinema with this film produced by Udhayanidhi Stalin’s Red Giant Movies.
Ra.One
Ra. One, the Tamil version of Shahrukh’s Bollywood magnum opus of the same title, will also release in Tamilnadu during Deepavali.
Leading distributor and theatre owner Abirami Ramanathan has acquired the release rights and he is expected to market the movie in a big way, adding strength to the already-aggressive marketing strategies adopted by Shahrukh Khan.
Produced by Gauri Khan for Shahrukh-owned Red Chilies Entertainment and Eros International, the film is written and directed by Anubhav Sinha.
Velayudham
For Vijay fans, this would be a cracking Diwali as his ambitious film Velayudham will hit the screens. Produced by Aascar Ravichandran and directed by Jayam Raja, the movie has Vijay playing the role of an angry young man, who fights for a cause.
Queried about Velayudham, he says, 'It is a movie to reckon with in my career and it is no doubt a 'super hero' subject'.
The movie stars Genelia D'Souza, Hanshika Motwani and Santhanam. Produced by Aascar Ravichandran, it has music by Vijay Anthony.
Speaking about the film, the actor says, 'it is the desire of every actor in the industry to do the role of a messiah of the masses. I am no exception. When Jayam Raja narrated the script, I was impressed and it was exactly the one that I was looking for'.
