Getting recognition from his second (first film was ‘Santosha’) film ‘Cyanide’ (a film on Rajiv Gandhi assassinators) AMR Ramesh now on the fugitive Veerappan says he wants to tell the untold things to the people via film media. This is the habit I cultivated while going through the script work of ‘Cyanide’. Like that in a film on Veerappan there are so many things not revealed says AMR Ramesh who is making this film on ‘Veerappan’ life story as ‘Attahasa’ in Kannada and ‘Vanautham’ in Tamil simultaneously.
The earlier film of AMR Ramesh ‘Police Quarters’ was also in Kannada and Tamil and again in bilingual as the central character Veerappan is related more to Karnataka and Tamil Nadu states. There is scope for drama, emotions and pain. In the last 10 years I have done enough of research on ‘Veerappan’ subject. I am here to tell the truth for audience on screen.
Ramesh met Smt Muthu Lakshmi wife of fugitive Veerappan after the kidnap of Kannada matinee idol in 2000 August. Again after encounter of Veerappan I met Muthulakshmi in Mettur where she was staying in her sister house. For the last three years the discussion on how the film should be was discussed.
I know about a film in Kannada ‘Veerappan’ produced by Chandulal Jain. My contents are different. Dr Rajkumar kidnap, minister Nagappa killing, killing of police officers, villagers, elephant poaching and finally aftermath of Veerappan encounter are part of my film ‘Attahasa’. Actual locations I have chosen and traced the hideouts of Veerappan.
With such a volatile subject director AMR Ramesh does not feel any controversy stalling his film on Veerappan. There is intense research and he met super cops like Vijayakumar, Kempaiah, Shanker Bidri, Gopal Hosur, Bipin Gopalakrishna, Chikkerur, Jyothi Prakash Mirji, Kunchanna Srinivasan, ACP Bawa, Ashok Kumar, Ramakrishna Prasad – all those who worked to bring down the regime of Veerappan. I had even been to Belgaum, Mysore, Coimbatore jail to meet Veerappan associates. The contents what I have is very authentic and will not embroil in controversy says the confident AMR Ramesh.
